Video: Growing Up Catholic

I conceived the idea of creating a series of online video essays for the Catholic Chicago exhibition and working closely with curator Jill Grannan, educator Marie Scatena, and multimedia editor Maureen McManus we developed three themes and storylines. “Growing Up Catholic” is my favorite of the three. My responsibilities working on this video were editing the story, gathering visuals, sound editing, project manager and creative lead.

Working closely with the Education department at the Chicago History Museum we developed this exhibition review application targeted towards educators and middle-high school students. This exhibition review application allows students to give their opinion on our Abraham Lincoln Transformed and Benito Juarez and the Making of Modern Mexico exhibitions after their visit. The purpose of the application is to encourage critical thinking and self-expression in students as well as serve as a summative evaluation tool for education and exhibitions. I acted as project manager and interaction designer for this project.

2009 is the Year of Lincoln at the Chicago History Museum. We celebrate his bicentennial and as a treat to Lincoln lovers everywhere we developed the Get Lincolnized! application that allows users to add a Lincoln beard/persona to themselves and upload their image to Flickr. I played the role of interaction designer and project manager for this web application.

I was a member of the design team that worked on the award winning Great Chicago Stories an educational resource geared towards educators and elementary-high school students. Great Chicago Stories consists of 12 stories, lesson plans, and an interactive story map.

I conceived and designed the Chicago History Museum Blog while working as a member of the Chic Chicago exhibition team. Realizing the vast internal knowledge and interesting behind the scenes activities that take place at the Museum, I thought we should create a forum where we can give our public an insiders glimpse to the Museum that they would not otherwise experience.

In 2006-2007 the Chicago Historical Society went through a transformation, both physical and virtual becoming the Chicago History Museum. I was a member of the redesign team and liaison to the outsourced consultants who worked on the chicagohistory.org redesign. My responsibilities included assisting in usability studies, researching and recommending a Content Management System, and serving as project manager.
